In early 2023, a plea on social media was made for a small senior dog on a farm in California. She had a ginormous, erupted tumor shooting out from her abdomen, about the size of her head—giant, open, smelly, and oozing. Hailey had lived with that mammary tumor without any medical intervention for presumably years.

When we saw that post, we knew that if we were able to get out there, we would negotiate her freedom and bring her back to AZ.

Turns out, our little bully Utah had been adopted out to a gal in California, and it just so happened that little Hailey was on the way! While taking Utah up to Oakhurst, Koco stopped at the farm and spoke to her owners. They surrendered her within the hour, and Hailey made her way back to AZ!

As soon as she got to AZ, we began medical intervention and scheduled her surgery. They got good margins during surgery, but it was soon discovered that she had a "very aggressive" Stage 3 Cancer. The vets didn't feel good about her prognosis and didn't think she would get more than a couple of good months. But we knew her differently.

On top of meds prescribed by our vet team, we got her on more holistic options as well, including turkey tail mushroom, a full raw diet, and FMT therapy.

It will be a year in February, and Hailey isn't slowing down!! She's the classiest, gentlest, and sweetest little lady.

She will be one of our "Forever" dogs and stay with us unless we find a forever foster that would do Hailey justice, we’re not in a rush.
